Today’s is Mum’s 76th birthday. Since the day I was born, I have not been separated from her. I watch her grow old gracefully...

My Mum in her 60s and 70s
Last Sunday, we celebrated her 76th birthday early because it is a day where all her grand children are available to join us. We did not go to a fancy restaurant or bought her any fancy gifts this year. We all give her "ang paus" because it is getting harder each year to buy a woman who has everything! We had a simple dinner at home. Mum made an ABC soup and Stew mushroom with mini abalone, I made butter prawns and stir fry mixed vegetables, Quay Lo made a delicious crock pot pork loin ( I will ask him to share the recipe with you all later) and Nicholas under the guidance of his Dad, baked Grandma a birthday cake. It was an Orange honey almond cake. The cake did not come out pretty but it was tasty (I will make sure Quay Lo share the recipe with you all in another post).

We all love you, Mum!

Stitch suggested that I make her a birthday card. Nick helped me to design it. Know what she said when she saw it? She asked "AIYOH!! Who is this big mouth lady?" I said, "Your daughter lah." She answered, "Ha? Why so ugly one??" Then, we all burst out laughing... I am so pleased that the early celebration of her birthday was filled with joy and laughter and I believe this is more valuable than any material gifts.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM, I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your beautiful mother and BRAVO to her fro raising such a sweet, wonderful daughter:)
ReplyDeletecherish every moment.
Happy Birthday to your Mom. She is a year elder than mine.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!! She is GORGEOUS - from her teens to now - just gorgeous - and clearly, it's inside and out. Here's to many, many more.
ReplyDeleteHaiyo! Both of you should have let me know that her birthday was just around the corner, which would be now - today! - when I was at your place last Saturday! Feeling so "ng hou yi si" for not wishing her a happy birthday in person, when I actually got to see Po-Po in person that evening!
ReplyDeleteVeron and Stitch, I know you don't read Chinese, so I'm just gonna write this down for Po-Po and let her read it:
在此恭祝婆婆有個愉快的76歲大壽!永遠青春快樂,笑口常開!壽比南山高!
Very Happy Birthday to your Mom.
ReplyDelete祝Quay Po 妈妈:生日快乐,笑口常开。

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your mom! She was absolutely stunning as a young woman and has aged beautifully :o)
ReplyDeleteOh Veronica, this post made me smile all the way through. What a wonderful and beautiful tribute to your dear mom. She certain is growing older with grace. She is still a beautiful 76 year old. Needless to say, very beautiful in her younger years as well. I loved that you all chipped in to make something for her birthday dinner. I know that being surrounded by such love and beautiful children, grandchildren, and family is all a mom ever hopes for on her birthday. The gift of family and love is much more precious than any material gift you could get her. A very Happy Birthday to your lovely Mom!!! Please give her a big warm birthday hug for me too! Love the birthday card - haha!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and many, many returns to your Mom! Thanks for sharing all those precous pictures!
ReplyDeleteDavid, Small Kucing, Belinda, Lena, Biren: I tanslated your comments to my Mum this morning and she ask you to thank you all for the birthday wish and the compliments. It makes her very happy.
ReplyDeletePei Lin, Ann: It is so sweet of you both to write the birthday wishes in Chinese. I showed her this morning. She read it and it put a big smile on her face. She asked to thank you both.
Alan: You are so right, no treasure in the world can compare to having the people we love with us especially on an occasion like birthdays.
Three-Cookies: Yes, I agree, celebrating at home with homecooked food is more meaningful than having a big party outside. My Mum said thanks for the birthday wish.
Rudi: My Mum thank you for the birthday wish. It is very easy to make photo collage like this. Check this site out: http://www.picnik.com
Swathi: My mum said thank you to you. Yes, I will treasure every single moment with her.
Susi: I agree with you, she is beautiful woman. I admire her beauty and her strength. She is my ROCK!
LeQuan: I showed Mum your blog and told her how I feel so connected with you even we have not met. It seemed like we have been friends forever. She said, this is like the Chinese idiom: "Yau yuen chin lay lung seong wui, Moe yuen, tui mien but seong foong" meaning if we are fated to meet, we could, even we are thousands of miles away, if not, we will not know each other even if we are sitting opposite each other.
Oh I gave her a hug on your behalf and she sends her's back. She asked me to thank you for your kind words and birthday wishes and said to treasure our friendship. I definitely will!
I am glad you notice the birthday card. It is hilarious isn't it? When I look at it, it still give me a chuckle.
The weekend is here again. Have a great one!
Happy Birthday to your lovely mother. She is, as always, so stylish and beautiful. Can't wait to see her again!

ReplyDeleteDiana: My mum said thank you and she too said it has been a long time she did not see you and ask when you come to have dinner with us again. I told her mid April:D
ReplyDeleteCathy: My Mum asked me to thank you. She is amazed at the many birthday wishes she received from people she does not know. Obviously it makes her very happy.

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your mom! You look just like her in her younger years. Beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post and a beautiful tribute to your mom. Happy Birthday, Auntie!! Wishing you good health and many more happy years to come.
ReplyDelete(My hubby saw this post and said Stitch reminds him of KFC's Colonel Sanders. Hehe.)
Veron, I am so touch by all these old black and white photos, I only have few with my mom and sister. We were poor when young, no camera to take photos. Ya, when I was young, my sister and I also wore dresses made by mom, also always the latest fashion, hehehe!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday to your mom!
yummychunklet: My Mum asked me to thank you.
ReplyDeleteChristine: Do I really?? Aww! Thanks. My mum would like to thank you for the birthday wish.
NEL: My mum said thanks to you. As regards to what your hubby said about Stitch, he is not the first to say that. Many of my friends and family think so too. When we were in Shanghai one trip, we were at a park and walked pass a group of school children between the age of 6 to 9 who were on an excursion, they all came running towards him and call him Colonel Sanders. Same thing happen in Bangkok. In his younger days when he was much slimmer, people mistaken him for Kenny Rogers.
Sonia: Keep the few black and white photos you have with your mum and sister in a safe place. They are priceless. I love all the dresses my mum made for me and you are right, they are usually the latest fashion! My Mum is cool with my dressing. She never stop me from wearing the latest fashion like mini skirts, hot pants and bare backs. Some of my friends' parents do not allow them to wear what they like because they are worry about gossips especially in a small town but my mum is never bothered by any gossips. I learn that from her.
Happy birthday to your mother!! Amazing pictures!! gloria
