"Ngoh ker lang tit" (Mine is nicer)

Have you come across some people who always think that theirs are always nicer and better than yours?  We had a friend who says this all the time. Whenever you show him something that he too possessed, he will say “Ngoh ker lang tit” (Mine is nicer).  In the case of the churros we had at a cafe last month, I actually uttered the same phrase after the first bite. It was over cooked and oily! YIK!! I don’t think I will ever order churros at a café in future because I have tasted my own and it was SO lip smacking delicious that it will always be “Ngoh ker lang tit!”  (Mine is nicer) I am sorry it sounds like bragging.

I apologize for the lousy shots because I felt lazy that day. I just don't fell like setting up my DSLR camera. I used my point and shoot camera and took it in my kitchen with florescent lighting. So now you can say to yourself about the photo, "Ngoh ker lang tit" (Mine is nicer.) and I will absolutely agree with you. LOL!  Have a great weekend with your love ones.

Churro Tots
Recipe adapted from Dorie Greenspan

Ingredients:
Vegetable oil for frying
1 cup water
1 stick (4 ounces) butter
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
3 eggs & 2 egg whites

For dusting:
3 tablespoons of cinnamon and sugar, mixed

Method:
Prepare to fry the churros by heating about 1 1/2 inches of oil in a deep pan.  The oil should be about 360 degrees F.
To make the dough, bring the water, butter, cinnamon and salt to a rolling boil in a 3-quart saucepan.  Stir in the flour all at once.  Reduce the heat to low and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute.  Remove the pan from the heat.
Let the batter sit for 5 minutes to cool. When it’s warm (not hot) to the touch, add one egg at a time. Keep stirring until the mixture comes together and is smooth.  (You can do this in a mixer with a paddle attachment if you’ve already had your daily workout.) Note: Since it was way too dry for me, I added 2 egg whites. It was then perfect. Spoon the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.  Have sterilized scissors on hand.  Hold the bag over the hot oil, squeeze a strip of dough about 1 inches long, snip it with the scissors and let it drop into the oil.  Fry 10 to 12 balls at a time, turning once, until golden brown, about 2 minutes on a side.  Drain on paper towels.  Roll the churro tots in the sugar/cinnamon and serve immediately.  These are really best minutes after they’ve been fried. Serve with whipped cream and/or melted chocolate.

  7. I had a good laugh at your title - I was thinking what a provocative title it is and was wondering what kind of 'tit' you'll be writing about :P I have a dirty mind btw.

And what a coincidence that I was also just wondering what churros was because a cartoon my son was watching just featured the characters eating them - that was an hour ago. This I mus try making one day - "lei ke hou lang"

  25. Wow - these are stunning! There are certain things that - when homemade - are just better! They look delicious and I can see why you felt that way!

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's ALWAYS the case. When eating out, avoid ordering things that one can cook - sure will be disappointed. Our own definitely much nicer as we do not scrimp on the ingredients and our priority is enjoyment or pleasure, not profit.

Like the time my cousins and I went to a nyonya restaurant in Penang - criticised from top to bottom - expensive some more...and sure, ours are much nicer. One cousin (that one can't cook) said, "You people better stay at home and eat what you cook yourselves!" LOL!!!

  27. I love churos. You reminded me tomake them soon:)

  35. I've never tasted churros before but if yours is nicer, I wouldn't dare try it at a cafe or even cook it. LOL. That's how a great cook you are..:)

I do comparison sometimes too especially when I eat at the tone down Malaysian restaurant here. Not so much about the look of the food but more the taste of the food. I can cook certain dish better than them :)

  40. My best friend used to be like that.....everytime I had something good she wouldn't exactly say that hers was better but she'd talk about it in a way which suggested it- it annoyed me heaps! You don't sound like you're bragging at all- it just sounds like you have an awesome recipe!! If I ever get around to making churros, I'll definitely try this recipe- it sounds amazing!

  61. What cute little churros! Love 'em! I could eat a whole bowl by myself! When I make these, I'd usually eat a few as I'm frying, you know, just to make sure they taste ok. After I finish frying everything, there'll only be half a portion left on the plate for my family to eat...:p~~~ Looking at your post, I feel like making them again! :)

My daughter asked me why I bought , I told her that I saw from TV program, said it was very yummy, so I have to try !! I eaten those were long so that we can dip into the chocolate sauce when we eat them !! They said it was very hard to make, so have to sell at so high price !! When I ate that time, I did feel it tasted like something I know, but just did not know what was that !! Quay Po, 1000+1 Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe !! I have 2 big bottles of Nutella from Paris, will make good use of them with this yummy recipe !! Thanks again !!
