Cauliflower potato salad from left over otak-otak

When you have left over otak otak, you can try making this salad.  Imagine the salad being coated with the savory fish mousse.  I am lost of words for how to describe its deliciousness. You got to taste it first hand to experience the explosive flavors that come from the spices and herbs used to make the otak otak.  I recommend that you serve this salad with some freshly baked baguettes.  If you want to make this a main meal, just add a hard boil egg to it to make it more wholesome.

Ingredients:
200 gms Cauliflower, cut into smaller florets, boiled
2 medium size US russet potatoes, diced, boiled
1 head of Romanian lettuce
50 gm anchovies, mashed
2 cups otak otak without the daun gadok
Salt to taste

Method:
Boil potatoes and cauliflower to just cooked but not soft. Mash anchovies. Put otak otak, mashed anchovies, cooked potatoes and cauliflower in a mixing bowl and mix well.  Salt to taste.

  2. Sounds interesting! But unfortunately there's never leftover otak-otak here in my home .... they get snapped up too quickly! Looks like I'll have to make a batch just to get this dish LOL!

  5. Such a simple recipe. You know, I've never had Otak Otak before, but have read lots about it from the blogosphere. It sounds delicious and full of flavour. This is a great way to get rid of left over Otak Otak. Although with me around, there probably wouldn't be any leftovers. Teehee. Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

  14. I am surely obsessed with cauliflower. I have been for some time now, but am always seeking out new ways to experiment with the thing! I think the combination of cauliflower with anchovies sounds exquisite. :-) I recently came back from Israel and am all over crispy-friend cauliflower. I don't know yet how to make it the way they do (it's not deep-fried in batter -- it's just deep fried lightly so that it's crispy on the outside and tastes like a soft smorgalicious potato-like veggie on the inside) but I hope to soon! :-)

  16. lafillenaturelle: Thanks for your visit and comment. I know why you are crazy about the crispy cauliflower. They are very delicious. They are available in most of the Indian Restaurant here in Malaysia. I have yet to check out the recipe and if I find one, I will share it with you.

Sandra: Thanks. Did not expect it to be selected for Top 9.

  18. I like this idea! Relating to your latest post on "spend money to save money" - it is like spending money to make otak-otak but with leftover to make another new dish, right? Hahh....similar to "spend money to save money"...
